Lowliness and Wisdom
This week we want to consider the importance of lowliness and godly wisdom.
True godly wisdom comes through having an attitude of lowliness of mind, meekness and humility.
Proverbs 11:2(KJV): When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
James 3:13(KJV): Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
The reason why there is so much knowledge in the church today but very little wisdom is because of the attitude of pride in so many of us. Remember that “knowledge puffeth up but charity (or love) edifieth.” (1 Corintians. 8.1).
In fact even if you have wisdom from God if you do not maintain an attitude of humility you will have that wisdom corrupted: this was what happened to Satan and all satanic or ungodly wisdom is corrupted.
Ezekiel 28:17(KJV): Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
James 3:14-15(KJV): But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
The scripture says “wisdom is the principal (or the most important) thing (Proverbs. 4.1)” but we get and maintain it by an attitude of lowliness, meekness and humility.
Humility, simply put, is submitting your will to the will of God when you don’t feel like it, especially when doing so makes you smaller than what you think and know you are.
You choose to be humble as an act of your own will and you maintain humility by daily reaffirming that you will submit to God’s will even when you don’t feel like it, and acting on it when situations come up to test the sincerity of your decision to be humble.
So, by maintaining a lowly heart, like Jesus who was meek and lowly in heart (Matthew. 11.29), we will continue to receive and retain, in its purity, the wisdom of God which will make us victorious and successful, spiritually, mentally and physically to the glory of God.
