BETHLEHEM, HEBRON AND ZION 2
(week 17/15)
OLUBI JOHNSON

In our last article, we saw that David had 3 anointings: at Bethlehem, Hebron and Zion.

This week, we will see what these 3 anointings symbolize in our experience as New Testament Christians today.

These 3 anointings typify 3 levels of anointing we are DESTINED to experience IF we DEVELOP DAVID’S TYPE OF HEART.

1. Bethlehem anointing– The earnest anointing of the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues (Act. 2.1-4; 10.44-46; 19.1-6).

Ephesians 1:13-14 AMP: In Him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings (Gospel) of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit.  (14) That [Spirit] is the guarantee of our inheritance [the firstfruits, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage], in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring [complete] possession of it–to the praise of His glory.

2. The Hebron anointing via Ziklag—A borrowed anointing of the Spirit without measure, like one the Lord Jesus gave to the 12 Apostles and 70 disciples (Lk.9.1-6, 10.1-17).

The borrowed anointing is obtained via Ziklag because to get it, you have to follow a leader like Elisha followed Elijah, who has inherited the Spirit without measure for a time typified by David’s stay at Ziklag. The Apostles had been following the Lord Jesus for about 1 year (Jn. 2.11-13; Lk. 9.1-17, Jn. 6.1-13) before He gave them this borrowed anointing.

1Samuel 27:6-7 NKJV: So Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.  (7) Now the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was one full year and four months.

David’s anointing at Hebron made him King over only ONE tribe, that is why it symbolizes the limited borrowed anointing and not the full anointing of the Spirit without measure.

3. The Jerusalem or Zion anointing symbolizes the anointing of the Spirit without measure that the Lord Jesus inherited when John the Baptist baptized Him in water (Jn.1.29-34; 3.34).

It is our destiny as ‘David’ type of New Testament Christians to inherit this Spirit without measure fulfilling:

John 14:12 NKJV:  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

Luke 6:40 NKJV: A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.

Ephesians 4:15 NKJV: but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—

So we are to develop from Bethlehem to Hebron and then ultimately to Zion!
