The Rock of Revelation
(week 35/07)

Olubi Johnson

Matthew 16:17-20(NKJV): 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Revelation knowledge is the rock on which you should build your Christian life. Now, it is vital to understand that just being born-again alone does not guarantee that you are building on the rock: it is possible to be born-again and not be walking in revelation knowledge but rather in sense-knowledge.

It takes effort in prayer and in the Word to get and keep revelation knowledge and so build your Christian life on it:

Luke 6:46-49(NIV): 46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Matthew 7:24-27(NKJV): 24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 Now everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

It is instructive to note that it took deep digging to build on the rock. To be a doer of the Word and not a hearer only you need to:

1. Say God’s Word with your mouth day and night (Joshua 1.8).

2. Say God’s Word in your heart with a determination to practice it (Deuteronomy 30.14).

3. Pray in the spirit with tongues (1 Corintians 14.2,4) and groanings or travail (Galatians 4.19) to release the power of God into your will, mind, emotions, body and circumstances to overcome the power of the devil in your soul, body and circumstances (Ephesians 2.2-3) that will want to hinder you (Galatians 5.17) from doing the Word of God.

4. Practice acting on God’s Word.

Observe that if you try to just act on God’s Word without, as it were, ‘digging deep’ in the Word and prayer you will not have the spiritual power to do the Word. This is what it means to build on sand and not on the rock. It is ‘digging deep’ in the Word and prayer that causes you to have revelation knowledge and so build on the rock.

In this 3rd. day it is vital to build on the rock so you can overcome the flood (Isaiah 59.19) of abounding iniquity (Matthew 24.12) that is being released into the earth.

In our article next week we will see how the rock of revelation can either be a rock of building or a rock of offence.
