THE FULNESS OF GOD
(week 45/11)
Olubi Johnson

Colossians2:9 KJV: For in him dwelleth all  the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Here we are told that the fulness of the Godhead dwells bodily in Christ.

What is the fullness of the Godhead?

We have to understand that when Christ took upon Himself the form of man; he left His original form as God in all of its omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence in care of the other two Persons of the Godhead: the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Philippians 2:5-7 KJV: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:  (6) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:  (7) But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

This original form of God is the fulness of God the Son; the combination of this form of God of all the three Persons of the Godhead is the fulness of the Godhead.

The majesty and size of the heavens (Ps. 19:1) seen in the observable universe (which is of the order of magnitude of 1030 m: actual estimate is about 1026 m) show us how big God (of the order of magnitude 10100 m taking into account the 2nd and 3rd heavens (2 Cor.12:2) using Mk. 4:20 in the manifold wisdom of God as a type) is relative to man and our observable universe.

Now this bodily-fulness of the Godhead was available and functional (i.e. ‘dwelleth in’) through the physical body of the Lord Jesus Christ when he was here on earth, when he had reached spiritual maturity and so was entrusted with the Spirit without measure (Jn. 3:34).

It was with this bodily-fulness of the Godhead, or Spirit without measure, given in response to the prayers (Heb. 5:7) of the Lord Jesus, in His state of spiritual maturity (He could not do these things when He was 12 years old!), that He was able to perform miracles like feeding the five thousand with five loaves and two fishes (Jn. 6:9-13); walking on water (Jn.6:19); turning water into wine (Jn. 2:7-11).

It is pertinent here to state that all power comes from God and then through Him is used to create and sustain creation and ultimately circulates back to Him: so God always has a relatively (with respect to the 1st and 2nd heavens) infinite amount of power available to Him to do miracles in the physical world whenever He finds a suitable channel (Ps. 115:16, Ezk. 22:30) on the earth through which to release His power. This is why ‘with God all things are possible’ (Mk. 10:27) and ‘all things are possible to him that believeth’ (Mk.9:23).

Romans 11:36 KJV: For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Acts 17:27-28 KJV: That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:  (28) For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Hebrews 1:3 AMP: He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished our cleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high,

Amazingly in His wonderful grace, God has made this same fulness available to us individually and collectively (through covering) if we will, like the Lord Jesus, grow into spiritual maturity in perfection.

John 14:12 KJV: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

We will see why and how we need to do this now at this crucial time of human history in our article next week.
